Introducing Ellen Ostrow, Ph.D., PCC, CMC as the exclusive WILEF-endorsed for hire, leadership coach. Ellen, a seasoned professional, will be available to counsel young women in their respective firms who possess the potential to lead, but require the services of a professional coach to bring out the best in these “leaders in waiting”. Ellen can be retained either by a firm wanting to develop potential woman leaders or by women attorneys themselves.

 

WHO IS ELLEN

Ellen is an executive coach and psychologist and Founding Principal of Lawyers Life Coach LLC. Since starting her firm in 1998, Ellen has coached many hundreds of attorneys throughout the world at all levels of experience and seniority in law firms, corporate legal departments, government, not-for-profits and the judiciary. She provides coaching to attorneys in areas related to leadership development and effectiveness, career planning and advancement, communication and emotional intelligence. Ellen is particularly known for her expertise on the challenges faced by women in the profession and has been invited to address numerous audiences – including the Department of Justice Canada, the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, Harvard Law School’s Women’s Leadership Summit, the Center for Women in the Law’s Power Summit, and bar and women attorney’s groups on the national and local level throughout the US and Europe – on strategies for advancing women attorneys. She also consults with legal employers to assist them in efforts to reduce the barriers to the advancement of women and diverse attorneys.

WHAT WILL BE THE FOCUS OF COACHING?

Coaching goals are tailored to the individual. Leadership coaching goals can focus on either attaining a leadership role within the firm or increasing the effectiveness of your leadership within a role you currently occupy. Examples of coaching goals include developing strategic relationships; increased risk-taking; overcoming gender bias or other obstacles to advancement; increased assertiveness; self-promotion; increasing visibility; developing leadership presence; cultivating leadership identity and mindset; self-advocacy; effective delegation and management; managing up; finding a sponsor.

WHAT ELSE DOES LEADERSHIP COACHING INCLUDE?

Where appropriate, Ellen can conduct a 360 degree assessment to obtain confidential feedback that can help frame coaching goals. In addition, Ellen can provide a number of objective assessments often used for Leadership coaching, including assessments of conflict style, strengths and personality variables relevant to leadership.

HOW DO THE COACH AND CLIENT MEET

Most coaching sessions take place over the phone and are scheduled at mutually convenient times. In-person meetings are scheduled when possible. Ellen is available for email contact between scheduled sessions.

HOW LONG IS THE COACHING ENGAGEMENT?

Typically this is determined based upon the goals for the coaching.
